The Big Five
The Big Five are the five most iconic and sought-after animals to see on an African safari. The term originally came from big-game hunting, referring to the five most difficult animals to hunt on foot, but today, it is widely used in the context of wildlife safaris. The Big Five include:
Lion 🦁 – The "King of the Jungle," known for its majestic mane and powerful presence. Lions are often seen in prides, especially in open savannas like the Maasai Mara (Kenya) and Serengeti (Tanzania).
Leopard 🐆 – The elusive and solitary big cat, famous for its spotted coat and incredible agility. Leopards are often spotted in trees, particularly in areas like the Samburu National Reserve (Kenya) and Ruaha National Park (Tanzania).
Elephant 🐘 – The largest land animal, known for its intelligence, strong family bonds, and impressive tusks. Some of the best places to see elephants are Amboseli National Park (Kenya) and Tarangire National Park (Tanzania).
African Buffalo 🐃 – Also known as the Cape Buffalo, these powerful and unpredictable animals travel in large herds and are known for their resilience. They are commonly found in the Maasai Mara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater.
Rhinoceros 🦏 – Both black and white rhinos are included in the Big Five, though they are highly endangered due to poaching. Ol Pejeta Conservancy (Kenya) and Ngorongoro Crater (Tanzania) are among the best places to see them.

Zulfikar Kassam, born in Tanzania, and lived in Tanzania and Kenya for 16 years, followed by life in England and Canada has been fascinated by wildlife since his childhood. Since childhood, he has been inspired by the beauty of the surrounding nature and the beauty of wildlife.
In his teenage years, Zulfikar developed a passion for photography, striving to capture the beauty and emotions evoked by wildlife. Although he earned in Ph.D. degree in Engineering from the University of Toronto, and works in Information Technology, wildlife has been a hobby and passion.
